Many municipalities across the U.S. are struggling to deal with the growing number of homeless persons inhabiting their urban districts. My home of San Diego is no different. Will this issue ever be solved, is there a solution? Yes!

But first let me tell you what the solution is not; it’s not bigger government, politicians or urban think-tanks.

The solution is much more simple. In fact, the solution lies within an organization that has been in existence for two thousand years and is fully equipped with the resources necessary to end homelessness nationwide.

I know what you’re thinking, if that’s true then why don’t they take action?

Sadly, this organization is currently grappling with an identity crisis of biblical porporations. Instead of associating with the simple, serving the weak, sick, stray and lost, this organization has chosen to cater its services to the wise and wealthy while amassing a fortune.

Maybe you guessed it. The answer is The Church of Jesus Christ. It is the Church alone that has the human capital, economic resources and divine mandate to house, clothe, feed and treat the most helpless in society from New York to Los Angeles – today!

“Therefore, I urge church leaders across America to repent, return to your first love and do the first works. Fling open the doors of grace and invite into the house of the Lord those without a home, food, drink or peace of mind.”

Yes they stink, have problems and are often without purpose but isn’t this the true definitation of Agape love? For true Agape love gives without expectation of recompense. Too many pastors are recompensed for their services through bountiful tithes, plush offices and englarged salaries and staffs.

This is not the heart of Christ, this is not the mission of the Church, this is not being a witness to the world.

If this message resonates with you take action within your local church Body. Exhort the leadership to stop playing church and start being the church. Tell them to roll up their sleeves, get dirty and do God’s work here on earth.

Yes, you will be spurned by the religious, mocked perhaps by friends and family but if God is for you who can be against you?

I end this post with these sobering words from our Lord and Savior Jesus Himself:

Then the righteous will answer Him, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see You hungry and feed You, or thirsty and give You drink? When did we see You a stranger and take You in, or naked and clothe You? And the King will answer and say to them, ‘Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these My brethren, you did it to Me. – Matthew‬ ‭25:37-38

Then He will also say to those on the left hand, ‘Depart from Me, you cursed, into the everlasting fire prepared for the devil and his angels: for I was hungry and you gave Me no food; I was thirsty and you gave Me no drink; I was a stranger and you did not take Me in, naked and you did not clothe Me, sick and in prison and you did not visit Me. – ‭‭Matthew‬ 25:40-43‬
