Jesus said, “I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.”
However, I run into many people in the Church who are not experiencing the abundant life Christ promised. They are sad, filled with disappointments and failures. So therefore I ask the simple question, Why!
Why do people who have been gifted life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness through the power of the Gospel settle for the mundane life, the black and white life, instead of living life in “Living Color?”
I must admit that I don’t have the answer but Jesus does. And better yet He has communicated it, lived it and died so that we may have the abundant life.
So, here’s the hook. Do you want the abundant life Christ promised to all who follow Him? Huh, do ya? Of course you do. Everyone desires to live the abundant life and that is why people are willing to contribute handsomely to every passing fad that promises just that.
But are you willing to die? What! Yes, that’s right, the abundant “life” is found in “death.” For invariably that which keeps us from the abundant life is self. Self-ishness, Self-centeredness! Ringing any bells. This is what self-ishness and Self-centeredness look like.
I want what I want and I want it NOW! No not now but NOW! I want that job, that car, that home, that vacation, that women, that man, that marriage, that feeling, that talent, that fame, that wealth etc.
As we pursue that which we want, we get further and further away from the abundant life that Jesus promised. As we pile upon our shoulders material possessions they act as weights plummeting our souls to the deepest depths of despair.
So listen up. Are you listening………The secret to living the abundant life is dying to self-ishness and self-centeredness and living for Jesus. Your wants, forget’em. Your ambitions, throw’em out. Your deepest passions, leave’em behind.
Then when you are as bare naked as the day you entered this world ask Jesus what He wants for you, what His ambition is for your life and what He has created you to accomplish in this world. Ah! Then you will begin to live the abundant life, then you will experience the springs of living water welling up in your soul unto everlasting life.
Then you will bear a permanent joy in your heart that is as powerful as the undercurrent and as steady as the tides. Then you will be in perfect harmony with God’s Will for your life.
The abundant life is available to all….So die already…get on with it!
