God loves the poor and that means we should too. Not just in word but in deed like James admonishes his readers in James 2:1-15.
Therefore, I encourage you to spend time alone with the Lord learning what the verses below mean to Him, and then what they mean to you, in light of what they mean to Him.
Prov 13:23
The fallow ground of the poor would yield much food, but it is swept away through by injustice.
Prov 14:21
Whoever despises his neighbor is a sinner, but blessed is he who is generous to the poor.
Prov 14:31
Whoever oppresses a poor man insults his Maker, but he who is generous to the needy honors him.
Prov 17:5
Whoever mocks the poor insults his Maker; he who is glad at calamity will not go unpunished.
Prov 19:1
Better is a poor person who walks in his integrity than one who is crooked in speech and is a fool.
Prov 19:17
Whoever is generous to the poor lends to the Lord, and he will repay him for his deed.

Whoever closes his ear to the cry of the poor will himself call out and not be answered.

Jeremiah 15:28-29
They have grown fat and sleek. They know no bounds in deeds of evil; they judge not with justice the cause of the fatherless, to make it prosper, and they do not defend the rights of the needy. Shall I not punish them for these things?
Rom 15:25-26
But now I am going to Jerusalem to minister to the saints. For it pleased those from Macedonia and Achaia to make a certain contribution for the poor among the saints who are in Jerusalem.
Gal 2:10
They desired only that we should remember the poor, the very thing which I also was eager to do.
